Birds & Beats: A Guide to the Birdsong Playlist
We’re excited to share a new listening experience – a playlist that connects birds, music, and conservation in a powerful way!
Our playlist is a compilation of all the songs from A Guide to the Birdsong project, which invites artists to create original music using and inspired by the songs of endangered birds from their respective countries. The project’s vision is to bring together music lovers, bird enthusiasts, and environmentalists in order to drive impactful change to save at-risk habitats and bird species and to date, it has donated over $100,000 to local organizations that share its vision.
The project kicked off in 2015 with A Guide to the Birdsong of South America. The most recent release was in late 2025 with A Guide to the Birdsong of Migration, which is particularly poignant, as it makes the connection between the project’s 10 musicians who have migrated throughout the Americas and the birds that migrate across the same region.
We love all the songs from the 4-part series but a few of our favorites are:
Cotorra Del Sol (Sun Parakeet) (Algodón Egipcio aka Cheky Bertho from Venezuela)
This melodic selection by Algodón Egipcio, an Afro-Venezuelan artist based in Mexico brings attention to the beautiful Cotorra Del Sol, which is endangered due to the caged pet trade.
Loango Weaver (Les Mamans du Congo from The Democratic Republic of the Congo)
Reminiscent of a nursery rhyme, this infectious call-and-response song beautifully blends the Loanga Weaver’s call with children singing.
Black Catbird (Garifuna Collective from Belize)
With its strong bassline, this track seamlessly incorporates the Black Catbird’s song throughout. In addition, the Garifuna Collective’s member Al Ovando is an avid birder!
We hope you enjoy these songs as well as the complete playlist as much as we do!
