Prior to selecting a destination, we visit in person to develop the itinerary and to collaborate with local Birding Guides, as well as other suppliers. We seek to ensure that each itinerary is the perfect balance of guided birding tours and cultural points of interest.

We love all people…We’ll say it again for the people in the back “WE LOVE ALL PEOPLE!” However, to paraphrase a famous playwright, this initiative is a “radical invitation to Black people” so that they know they are welcome to join in on birding as a pastime. To further bolster this sentiment, “if everyone is invited, no one is invited” in the words of a noted facilitator and author.

Our trips are designed as birding tours which are faster paced than birding photography tours. However, our itineraries typically build in free time to facilitate opportunities for independent photography (including birding, other wildlife, and nature photography).

Our birding trips are more casual in nature and typically include birding in the morning with other cultural activities during the remainder of the day. While we will make every effort to ensure that participants get to see birds on their wish list, there are no guarantees in nature (or in the words of a famous Dominican birder “it’s not a zoo”).

We want to encourage birding among Black youth. Our U.S. domestic trips are open to children age 6 and older who must be accompanied by a parent.

At the moment, we do not offer a formal roommate matching program. Please contact us at info@beijaflortravel.com if there is a trip you are interested in joining but for which you are seeking a roommate. There are no guarantees that we will find a roommate match but for most trips, we do offer a single supplement rate.

Currently, we do not offer airfare, because as we understand it, based on a U.S. Department of Transportation rule effective October, 2024, should an airline cancel or significantly change the flight time, we would be held responsible for promptly refunding airfare we have collected and paid to the airline even if we had not yet been refunded by the airline. While we wholeheartedly agree with consumer protection measures, at this time, Beija Flor is simply not in a position to take on this potential liability without having already received a direct refund from the airline.

We are a staunch supporter of ethical birding practices and follow the American Birding Association’s Code of Birding Ethics. We also require that our partner Birding Guides around the world uphold this Code.

Most days include early morning starts, and for some locations, long drives. We seek to cover the most ground (in terms of the best birding opportunities and cultural points of interest) within a short period of time. Therefore, we require participant cooperation in adhering to outlined itinerary times.

Group sizes vary and are indicated in the trip description.

Our trips include all tips/gratuities.

If you have a group and want to travel privately on any of our itineraries, please contact us at info@beijaflortravel.com for a quote.
